This may be true for many. However, it is undisputed that mental arithmetic has experienced such a decline in speed across the board compared to the past that it is becoming difficult for pupils at school, for example, to hand in exams in mathematical subjects on time. This slowdown becomes more and more obvious with increasing age. The monotonous memorisation of rows of ones to tens is no longer adequate nowadays!<\/p>\n

We are committed to constantly guiding our students to solve calculations in their heads by means of activity-oriented arithmetic tasks. In the case of major difficulties with mental arithmetic that arise during lessons, intensive lessons can be booked by arrangement, in which the focus is mainly on action-oriented mental arithmetic. Even Gymi students should not lose sight of mental arithmetic, especially as universities complain that their students are increasingly weak in mental arithmetic. In case of dyscalculia, we refer our students to an expert with whom we cooperate.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Written arithmetic<\/h5>\n\t\t\t

With the invention of the pocket calculator, written arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) - like mental arithmetic - is on its way into the background of society. In order for written arithmetic to be efficient, mental arithmetic must function properly. Especially when preparing for the secondary or grammar school level at the end of primary school, a number of careless mistakes in written arithmetic are discovered, which should have been prevented by more intensive training in the past.<\/p>\n

What we offer<\/h4>\n

We show the pupils in detail different ways of solving calculations in writing. The action orientation is always in the foreground! For the different levels, we collect, for example, cash register receipts, tickets from ticket machines or write down bills from the pupils' lives. In the case of dyscalculia, we refer our pupils to an expert with whom we work.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

\"Sentence calculations\" are not everyone's cup of tea! The main weaknesses, which we have been recording for years in all levels, are on the one hand the linguistic understanding of the sentence task and on the other hand the real conception of the task itself. The sentence calculations in all levels of the school are created in such a way that a broad spectrum of calculation types is covered, but this does not increase the desire to approach such a task, which results in a vicious circle of demotivation.<\/p>\n

We have made the experience that individually adapted set calculations from the students' lives provide the best successes. In the process, the will to understand a calculation at all also increases. As soon as the interest in a task type grows, the performance also increases noticeably. Considering the prototypical effect that is triggered by this, similar tasks in school are pathbreaking for a better understanding due to these emerging mnemonic bridges. This is essential for deeper understanding at all school levels. In the case of dyscalculia, we refer our students to an expert with whom we work.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Calculating using rules<\/h5>\n

Memorising rules is part of all school levels. Since in most school models in Switzerland maximum individualisation is only possible through a cross-section of the teacher's general experience and the students' lifeworlds, only very limited individual attention can be paid to each learner. Mathematical rules in particular can thus only be weakly connected to the life of the individual.<\/p>\n
